Privacy
Our Plain Sight is a media-literacy publication. We do not track you without consent, we do not sell data, and we do not run advertising networks. This page explains exactly what each third-party tool does — and does not — store.
Umami Analytics
We use Umami for site-traffic analytics. Umami is open source and self-hosted on infrastructure we control.
What Umami stores:
- Page views (URL, referrer, screen size, browser family, OS family)
- Session identifier — a salted hash that resets daily and contains no personal data
- Approximate country (derived from IP; the raw IP is never stored)
What Umami does not store:
- Your IP address
- Cookies of any kind
- Cross-site tracking identifiers
- Any personally identifiable information (PII)
Umami only loads after you click Accept on the consent banner. If you clicked Decline, no analytics script is loaded at all. You can change your choice at any time via the “Privacy settings” link in the footer.
Cusdis Comments
Some articles may include an optional comment widget powered by Cusdis, a privacy-first, minimal commenting tool.
What Cusdis stores:
- Comment text you submit voluntarily
- Name / email you supply when leaving a comment (optional fields)
What Cusdis does not store:
- Tracking pixels or advertising identifiers
- Behavioral tracking across pages
Like Umami, the Cusdis widget only loads after you accept consent.
MailerLite Newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email address is stored by MailerLite. MailerLite’s privacy policy is at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy.
What MailerLite stores on our behalf:
- Your email address
- Subscription date
- Open and click events (these may use a pixel — see MailerLite’s privacy policy)
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any newsletter email. We will never sell your email address.
No Third-Party Advertising or Tracking
Our Plain Sight does not load Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Twitter Pixel, or any advertising or retargeting network. There are no cookies set without your explicit consent. The only external scripts that ever run are Umami (consent-gated) and Cusdis (consent-gated). All fonts are self-hosted.
